Lens Guide

Juniperus offers a large selection of colored lenses with different light filtering properties. Our standard colors are Yellow 450, Red 550 and Ruby Red 580. These colors are edge filters, which means they block all wavelengths below a certain threshold, that threshold is 450 nm, 550 nm and 580 nm respectively.

Which lenses?

We have a filter for every time and purpose. Choose a filter based on your personal situation and preference. That is, usage and light environment. Deciding between daytime and nighttime lenses? We strongly recommend the nighttime lenses! More bang for the buck regarding your health and wellbeing.

Yellow 450

  • Daytime use

Our Yellow 450 lenses filters out all light below 450 nm. This lens filter is used to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), anxiety and low mood, but also help against sore dry eyes. The edge of this filter is located in the violet area of the spectrum, but still offers good protection against harmful high energy visible light due to the slow rise of the transmission curve above 450 nm. The Yellow 450 filter will protect you from most of the high energy visible light, which is emitted from fluorescent lights, led lights and the screens on your smartphone, tablet, computer and television, and still offer you a high contrast and a good color perception. This is a filter to wear at daytime when you are indoors under artificial light. It´s main purpose is to protect your eyes and vision, prevent overproduction of cortisol and thereby protect your circadian system.

Red 550

Our Red 550 lenses  filters out all wavelenghts below 550nm. This means it will block all blue and most green light. Studies have shown that blue and green light will suppress melatonin secretion and therefore interfere with your circadian rythm and sleep. It all starts with sleep! The main purpose of this filter is to protect your sleep and circadian rythm. Wearing a pair of Juniperus with this filter will not only help you to fall asleep but also enhance your sleep and ensure that the sleep is rejuvinating. This filter shall optimally be worn 2 to 3 hours prior to bedtime or after sunset when exposed to any kind of artificial light. This filter gives you the opportunity to continue to use modern facilities without paying a substantial price with your health.

Ruby Red 580

Our Ruby Red 580 lenses blocks all wavelenghts below 580 nm that is all blue and all green light. The melatonin disruption zone goes upp to about 575 nm. Some will say that blocking up to 550 nm is enough, but it is not if you are looking for minimal melatonin disruption. Wearing a pair of Juniperus with this filter will not only help you to fall asleep but also enhance your sleep and ensure that the sleep is rejuvinating. This filter shall optimally be worn 2 to 3 hours prior to bedtime or after sunset when exposed to any kind of artificial light. It is developed for those of you who are meticulous about the light your eyes percieve at night.
